Level 1, Day 12: EXHAUSTION

Okay, maybe I shouldn’t have put that title up in all caps. I wasn’t THAT exhausted.

Today was my first day at my new job- I’m doing sales at a big startup in Boston- and when I got home, I was wiped. Not only was I tired, but I also had a pretty bad headache.

Perfect time to unwind and relax with BrainEv!

So I settled down, put on my headphones, and after spending a few minutes awake and relaxing, fell asleep for the duration of my practice and a bit afterwards as well (like 5-10min past the end of the audio). It may not have been an amazing practice in terms of Brain Evolution System (although remember, falling asleep doesn’t mean I’m getting nothing out of it!), but it was exactly what my body/mind needed today.

I think as I adjust to my new job and work schedule, and learn how to better maximize my energy throughout the day, I’ll continue to improve with BrainEv. So far, so good- really enjoying the program.

Level 1, Day 11: Much Better

Today’s practice was a lot smoother- didn’t fall asleep! It would appear that when my practice time or sleep schedule shifts, my body just needs 2 days to readjust and on the 3rd day I’ll get through the whole session at appropriate levels of consciousness.

Hard to believe that there are only 2 more days of practice with the audio this week and then i’ll be reflecting again- that marks almost HALFWAY done with Level 1: Transcendence.

Definitely really enjoying the program so far, and I’m even starting to notice some effects in my life in terms of cognitive functioning- I’ll talk more about that in the coming weeks 😉

Level 1, Day 10: Peaceful Sleep

Well, today my Brain Evolution System practice wasn’t interrupted by loud music downstairs (yay!), but I DID sleep through just about the whole thing.

I did get a little less sleep than usual last night, so that definitely could have something to do with it. I’m hoping it’s not just the time of day when I’m practicing though (a little after 6PM), because with a full-time work schedule coming up that will probably be my regular practice time for the next six months!

Bummer too, because I was REALLY looking forward to today’s session (although all-in-all I guess it still was enjoyable hahaha), and I remember having some very interesting visualizations before falling asleep. In hindsight, that was probably a signal that I WAS going to fall asleep (I have a thing where I start visualizing/thinking crazy things right before I actually fall asleep).

Level 1, Day 9: 50%?

Had a pretty good Brain Evolution System session today, felt like I was in a deep state of mind, and then I checked the time and I was only 12 minutes in! Great first half.

Things weren’t as amazing the second half- I fell asleep and at the end realized that there was AGAIN loud music playing downstairs, so I have no idea if that affected my session at all. But, I can’t complain since I had a good first half.

Now I just need to keep pressing forward until my brain adapts more completely and I reach these deep states of mind for the entire duration without falling asleep. When things are working well though, it’s really enjoyable. I’m definitely starting to look forward to my daily sessions.

Level 1, Day 8: Interrupted! (or, the pains of living with others)

Back to actual brainwave practice today- was a GREAT session starting out (and near the end as well), but was interrupted halfway through by my dad blasting music from a floor below me. These are the pains of living with others.

Besides suddenly coming out of my deep state ~13 minutes in and taking a few minutes to settle back in (after cranking up the volume, of course), I had a fantastic session, probably my best yet- I let go of thoughts without getting frustrated, even though they frequently came up, and achieved deep levels of relaxation/mind without falling asleep.

Best session so far probably, interruption excepted. I look forward to tomorrow!

Level 1, Day 7: Reflection 1.1

Seeing as today marked the end of my first “week” with the Brain Evolution System, it was time to take an intentional day off from using the audio and instead spend my daily 30 minutes in self-reflection. I first reflected on my goals for using the program, then spent 10 minutes in silent meditation, and then sat down to write this blog post and some other personal writings on my progress so far.

Here are the goals I came up with for using the BrainEv system:

  • Begin and boost a lifelong love and daily practice of meditation
  • Decrease stress levels and increase “being in a ‘flow state’” in my everyday life
  • Enable and support positive rewiring and reprogramming of my brain
  • Reach and explore new, deeper states of mind
  • Increase/enhance cognitive functioning

These self-reflection days will be especially great if I use them to practice longer and longer periods of silent mindfulness meditation. Right now 10 minutes seems like a long time and I get frustrated with how pervasive my thoughts are, but after 6 months of practice I’m sure that I’ll get very good at it, plus I’ll have developed a habit where EVERY DAY I spend 30 minutes to myself in some sort of meditative state.

Otherwise, I think my biggest challenge moving forward will be staying consistent in my practice, which I have full faith that I can. It wasn’t an INCREDIBLE first week, but I feel encouraged, and think that plenty of amazing things lie ahead not just in the next week, or even Level 1, but in the entire program.

Level 1, Day 6: A Busy Mind

Today I practiced in a slightly louder environment than usual (i’m on vacation with my family, so) and with the lights on, and I don’t think I was asleep much if at all- more of in a deep state of relaxation. Even though I felt very relaxed, my mind was very busy and chattery today, and rather than fight it I just kinda let it run it’s course. Interesting idea, when brainwave practice picks up again on Day 8 i’ll work more again on letting my thoughts go. As Lazy Yogi reminded me via Tumblr recently- don’t get fixated on/attached to a “goal” during meditation, just let everything be and be patient/loving to myself. 

Tomorrow is my first day off for self-reflection, so I’ll write more here then!

Level 1, Day 5: Pushed Back

Today was Day 5 of Level 1 with the Brain Evolution System.

I did my practice a little later in the day- had a busy afternoon, so a little after dinner I went into my room, turned on the Level 1 audio (download here), and closed my eyes.

I spent more time asleep during my practice than I have the past two days, so that felt like a bit of a step back, but it’s probably just because I practiced later in the day AND after dinner.

Crazy to think that I only have one more day of listening to the audios, then a day of reflection to finish off week one!

Level 1, Day 4: About the Same

Today was Day 4 of Level 1 with the Brain Evolution System, and honestly it was about the same to report as yesterday.

Left the lights on, was awake for about the first 5-7 minutes and the last 10, and was in a deep state or sleep or something in between. Had problems quieting my mind- I seem to have a lot of thoughts that want to zoom around!

Only interesting/different thing today was that my sense of time was kinda off- at one point I thought that things must be near over, so I opened my eyes to check the time and I still had 9 minutes left! I also experienced a lot of twitching about 5 minutes in.

Otherwise, no new news to report. I’ll keep on working at it and (hopefully) keep progressing forward with my meditations!

Level 1, Day 3: Adjustment Success! (kinda)

Today was Day 3 of Level 1 in my journey with the Brain Evolution SystemThe past two days I’ve been struggling with unwanted falling asleep during my practice, and today I’m happy to report that I’ve made an improvement in that area!

Two things helped me to stay awake today:

  • I took a REALLY long nap this afternoon (was travelling today, so it was a freebie)
  • I kept the lights on while practicing

I practiced at the same time of day as usual (~5PM), so tomorrow I’ll practice earlier in the day instead of taking a nap, but overall things went well.

I was definitely awake and aware for the first 10 minutes and the last 5-8 minutes of the practice, but there was a nice section in the middle where I had reached a pretty deep level of relaxation and wasn’t really consciously aware (but I don’t think I actually fell asleep either). I naturally came out of the deep state near the end of the audio for the first time (as I should), which was nice.

The only downside was that during those periods of being well-alert, it was really hard to empty my mind of thoughts and create a space/stillness. Obviously this is only Day 3, so I have a lot of time to work on that (10x this, PLUS 6 more levels!), but it was indeed a challenge today.
