Level 2, Day 14: Reflection 2.2

Wow! Been almost two weeks since I’ve blogged- sorry for the hiatus! I really need to get back on track with my BrainEv practice, and although I’ve done two sessions past when I should have paused for reflection, I figured I’d write my “weekly” reflection up here first, and then my blog posts will just jump forward to Day 17.

As I look back over all of my Level 2 posts thus far, I’m noticing a couple different things:

  • There was a major improvement in the effects I experienced from Week 1 to Week 2
  • My best sessions come when I’ve been using BrainEv consistently and as close to daily as possible
  • When I’m having good BrainEv sessions, it greatly helps my emotional/mental states throughout the day

For the last week or two, I got super busy and stopped doing a lot of the daily habits that have helped me be successful, like my BrainEv practice. I’ve run into some challenging moments and less-than-ideal days lately, so I know that I need to make a renewed effort to practice BrainEv as close to daily as possible.

So, I’ll be moving forward keeping in mind that need for a renewed effort, and I’m also just excited to see what else Level 2 brings me. The last blog post I made had me unlocking new states of mind, which was very exciting, and seeing as Level 2 is still just “skill building” and “introductory”, I can’t imagine what Levels 3-7 can bring me!

Level 2, Day 1: A Clumsy Jump In!

That’s the support/preparation/explanation for Level 2. If you’re going through this journey with me, I’d recommend you watch that before jumping into Level 2- I wish I did! (and if you aren’t doing this, then what are you waiting for?! You get a free mp3 to start!)

I think the philosophy behind BrainEv is super cool- rather then make a product that you need to rely upon to relax and enter deep states of mind, they’re actually trying to train you to build these skills on your own WITHOUT needing the program! Although Level 2 is still “introductory” and “skill building”, it’s pretty different from Level 1. And it’s even explained that this level may at first seem less pleasant.

That’s because there’s new challenges introduced- ambient sound (louder and sometimes cacophonous church chimes) are added to the audio, and the brainwave entrainment part of the audio is no longer the overbearing all-encompassing focus, it’s now a little less pronounced. This is so that you can better build up your ability to relax in the face of stressful situations.

And this did indeed effect me at first! Because of the chimes, it took me a while to really relax. Maybe 15 minutes, much longer than the 5min Level 1 used to take me. Now, if that had just been the session, I’d consider it a pretty decent day 1. However, I made one major blunder…

I forgot that I had had my iPod on “repeat song” earlier that day, and the audio ended up repeating itself! I guess I fell asleep somewhere late into the audio, and because the sounds just continued and looped, I never noticed and woke back up, I just kept sleeping! So I actually listened to the audio twice through, but really only the first time was beneficial.

Anyways, tomorrow I’ll make sure that feature is off, and I’ll report back and let you know how it goes! Brave new territory here, this is already as exciting as I’d hoped!

Prepping for my Brain Evolution System Journey

Hey all- first off, I’m gonna give you a one sentence introduction to myself: I’m Ryan, I’m a music industry professional (in various roles), entrepreneur, and “self-improvement” nut.

On this website I’ll be blogging through my experience with the Brain Evolution System, which is a brainwave entrainment program designed to help “learn meditation” and bring about other positive changes in your life. Every day after my 30 minutes with the program, I’ll make a quick blog post letting you know my day’s experience, and once a week I’ll make a longer post detailing my perceived progress. So stay tuned!

It’d be awesome to get some other people doing this with me as well, so if you hit up their website, you can get a free MP3 download of the beginning of the program so we can try it out together.

So- how did I prep for Day 1?

Well, besides reading the User Guide that comes with the program, Brain Evolution System also has a SWEET support website with all sorts of extra videos, explanations, FAQs, what have you. So, to kick myself off, I watch the Level 1 explanation video (below) to get a little more insight into what was about to go on.

headphones for meditation mp3Other than that, I clicked around their forums a bit, and then prepped myself to put my headphones on (as a DJ and audio engineer, I have some pretty sweet over-the-ear headphones that aren’t too expensive actually- check out the Sennheiser HD-205s) and let go of my thoughts.

So how’d it go? Stay tuned for the first post to find out… (and also grab the mp3 and join me!)
